There were some fantastic performances from B&H athletes at one of the most historic events in the British athletics calendar: the English National Cross-Country Championships. This year's racing took place in the attractive setting of Wollaton Park in Nottingham, with blue skies overhead and, for the most part, firm conditions underfoot; the contrast with Sunderland 2013 could not have been greater.

altHundreds of young athletes from all over the South East made their way to Burgess Hill on Sunday for the annual inter-counties U13 and U15 regional Championship. B&H athletes Joshua Firsht, Thomas Mutali, Matthew Smith, Jedida Dougnaglo (back row), Amber Anning, Hannah Brockbank, Amber Pennington and Anna Dornbusch were flying the blue flag for Sussex. Amber Anning retained her two U13 regional titles, winning both the standing triple jump (7.46m) and 4-lap sprint in some style.

A hat trick of gold’s in the triple jump was amongst the highlights of the Sussex Indoor Championships last weekend. Jack Valeri leapt 14.17m to win the senior men’s title, Jonah Adomakoh took the U20 title with 13.28m and Annie Onions won the senior women’s crown with 10.68m. Other high points included U17’s George Turner’s clearance of 4.06m in the Pole Vault and Matt Smith’s double gold in High Jump (1.70m) and Long Jump (5.90m). There was also a clean sweep of medals for B&H in the U20 Men’s 60m with Jamie Savage taking gold (7.45) from Nathan Parker (7.49) with Michael Papanicola in third in 7.56.

A total of 55 athletes competed in the various U11, U13 and U15 events over the four Sportshall fixtures. There were many outstanding performances with Amber Anning producing no fewer than five U13G County records.

To all athletes, parents, coaches and friends, anyone over 14. Please consider becoming a licensed official to help out at meetings.  
It can be a lot of fun and helps to make sure that events can continue to happen.  Details of courses coming up in the near future are below.  The club will pay your fees for this course.

A race walking coaching session for Sussex walkers (novices, beginners, juniors and seniors) will be held on Sunday 23rd February 2014 from 10am - 11.30am at Lewes Track.
